Metal Mesh, Stainless Mesh - FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Will galvanised mesh go rusty?

Galvanised woven and welded wire mesh usually has a very thin zinc coating which only makes it suitable for internal use.  If mesh is required for external use we recommend using stainless steel.

Why is my stainless steel going rusty?

The apperance of rust on stainless steel is actually known as "tea staining".  This is normally just a surface problem and will not affect the structural integrity of the material.  There are several ways to treat this problem - first is to try a chalk based bleach free solution.  If this is unsuccessful a more aggressive chemical treatment might be required, please check with your local stainless steel merchant for a propriety product and the best way to use it.

4

What is the difference betwen T304 and T316 stainless?

There is one major difference between T304 and T316, T316 has molybdenum added to its chemical composition which greatly improves its resistance to corrosion, particularly to pitting.  T316 is very often referred to as marine grade stainless steel because of its excellent resistance to corrosion in sea water.  Please be aware that stainless steel still requires cleaning, a simple soap solution will keep your stainless steel sparkling.
