PERFORATED METAL SHEETS – FAQs

What are perforated metal sheets?

Perforated metal sheets are flat sheets of metal with a pattern of punched holes or stamped holes, slots or different shape openings. These holes or openings can vary in size, shape and location creating an endless supply of patterns. We have over 250 types of perforated metal in stock, up to 3.0mm in thickness and with hole sizes ranging from 0.5mm to 30mm. We can also create custom designs tailored to your specific requirements.

How are perforated metal sheets made?

Perforated metal sheets can be manufactured using stainless steel (304 or 316-grade), aluminium, and mild steel or galvanised steel. Next, sheets of the required metal are carefully laid into the perforation machine. The software controls the spacing, size and location of the holes that are punched into the metal sheets.

To produce top quality perforated metals, the whole sheet is loaded into a turret punch. The machines can then punch the holes according to the requirements, using single die or cluster tools, moving across the stationary material section by section.

As you can imagine, this method can sometimes be a lengthier process. However, it is optimal for Perforated patterns that are not repetitive or have complex designs.

Typically, a certain amount of material along the length of the sheet will be reserved as unperforated. This is done to create margins, or solid blank areas around the edges of the material.

What types of perforated metal sheets are available?

Perforated metal sheets can be manufactured using stainless steel (304 or 316-grade), aluminium, and mild steel or galvanised steel. We can create perforated metal sheets with a variety of designs. Square, round and oblong holes can be punched in different sizes with a straight or staggered pattern, whilst decorative designs can be any shape or size. Then there are hexagonal or honeycomb perforations just to name a couple.

What are the applications of perforated metal sheets?

Perforated metal sheets with round holes tend to be used in air vents, metal screens, guards, strainers and decorative grilles. Square hole patterns are often used for the same applications as round hole patterns but with a modern twist to their appearance. Slots or oblongs are often used in ceiling panels, cladding, conveyors and protective panels. Hexagonal or honeycomb patterns are used in architectural designs, as well as in metal benches, drain covers, in-fill panels and metal screens

How much do perforated metal sheets cost?

The cost of perforated metal sheets is dependent on the type, thickness and size of the sheet, as well as the type of design that’s required. Please contact us for an obligation-free quote.
